We greet you in the name of God who calls us to worship. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will hold up the people of Uzbekistan in our prayers. Uzbekistan is located in central Asia. Home to a Turkic people, Uzbekistan was part of the Soviet Union 1924-1991. It has vast irrigated agricultural and pasture land, mineral wealth, and some heavy industry. Uzbekistan is one of the most historically fascinating of the Central Asian republics. Within it are some of the oldest towns in the world, some of the Silk Road's main centres and most of the region's architectural splendours.

Come, let us enter into this worship with joy and celebration as we pray for peace in our time and for our day, and for the whole human family.

Scripture Reading: adapted from Isaiah 35
The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water. A highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way; the unclean shall not travel on it, but it shall be for God's people. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come upon it, but the redeemed shall walk there. And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing.

Prayer for Peace by Pam Robison, Sedalia, Missouri

  We call you many names--
God
Allah
Great Spirit--
and sometimes we forget we are all part of the same family.

We call our homes by different names--
America
Bosnia
Japan
Fiji
and focus on the boundaries that separate us.

Help us to see the world from your perspective--
remind us of the view we have seen from space--
one planet
with divisions only of land - sky - ocean.

Creator--
Our thoughts are on the things that unite us.
Let us not focus on boundaries or divisions.
Help us rejoice in our diversity--
knowing that you have made each of us a unique creation.

Loving Parent--
Draw us closer to you.
Enfold us in your arms.
Grant us the peace of a family united in one goal--
the peaceable kingdom
Long prayed for, Long hoped for. Amen.

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.
God is great! God is good! We praise you and thank you for the plan of our salvation, and the plan for all humankind to live at peace, one with another.
The People Pray in Silence
O God, we have not always been at peace, or even kind to one another. Forgive us, we humbly pray, and open our minds and our hearts to see your will for our lives.
The People Pray in Silence
We lift up the people of Uzbekistan to you, grant them peace. O Lord, there are so many nations at war with one another today. We pray for them that they might learn the ways to settle differences peacefully.
The People Pray in Silence
We also pray for the leaders who seek their own good to the detriment of their citizens. Great God, we pray for the people of all nations who seek peace with justice. Bless their efforts with your Holy Spirit, we humbly ask.
The People Pray in Silence
This congregation also has needs and concerns. We ask your comforting spirit and your spirit of intelligence to direct our thoughts and actions. We desire to be a people of peace.
The People Pray in Silence
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
The People Pray in Silence
O God, as we leave this place, help us to be at peace, to share peace, and to teach peace. Amen.

Sending Forth
We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for as long as you may wish.

Thanks be to God for the plan of peace. Go now in God's name and He will guide us. Amen.
