Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer

Welcome today to this sacred
place, and we are happy to share this time of prayer with you. Each day
in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for
peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different
country.
Today we will hold up the people of Namibia in our prayers. Located in
Southern Africa, independence from South Africa was achieved in 1990.
The multiparty, multiracial democracy inherits an economy based on
mining, sheep and cattle ranching, and fishing. Blessed with rich
natural resources, a solid modern infrastructure and diverse traditional
cultures, Namibia is a beautiful country of vast potential. Namibia has
some of Africa's most diverse natural habitats. Even in the desert
you'll find elephants, giraffes and zebras. Flocks of flamingoes live in
Etosha National Park in the north. The Cape Cross Seal Reserve on the
central coast is home to 100,000 Cape fur seals.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in
it. Welcome to this time of prayer. May the things we do here today
reflect the glory of the Lord. Thank you for coming. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 161:3a |
| |
Open your hearts and feel the yearnings of
your bothers and sisters who are lonely, despised, fearful, neglected,
unloved. Reach out in understanding, clasp their hands, and invite all
to share in the blessings of community created in the name of the One
who suffered on behalf of all. |

Prayer for Peace by Patricia C. Pfann,
Onalaska, Wisconsin |
| |
Peace for the fearful,
Peace for the troubled,
Peace for the downtrodden,
Peace for the war torn,
Peace for the wounded.
I pray a prayer for peace dear Lord;
Peace for the forgotten,
Peace for the abandoned,
Peace for the homeless,
Peace for the hungry,
Peace for the unwanted.
I pray a prayer for peace dear Lord;
Peace for the hopeless,
Peace for the ignored,
Peace for the abused,
Peace for the sad,
Peace for the ill.
I pray a prayer for peace dear Lord;
Peace for the powerful,
Peace for the successful,
Peace for the careful,
Peace for the happy,
Peace for the loved.
I pray a prayer for peace dear Lord;
Peace for the children,
Peace for the world.
I pray a prayer for peace dear Lord.
In the name of thy son Jesus Christ we pray. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Creator of sunrises, mountains, and seas, we praise you
and come before you with gratitude in our hearts. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for those gathered here today. Bless us with the assurance of
your presence, making lighter the burdens which we bear. Keep us alert
for ways to practice peace. Open our eyes to new solutions for old
problems. Forgive us when we become discouraged by daily challenges
rather than seeing them as opportunities. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We lift up before you the country of Namibia and its people. May they
know peace among themselves and with others. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
May our voices unite with those around the world who are praying and
working to eliminate injustice and discrimination. Be with us as we
learn to teach of your peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
In response to your gracious influence in our lives, we offer to learn
the ways of peace, and be your examples of peace in the places you would
have us go. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
Go forth now, witness of the wonders of God, and of the blessings we
have received. May the still small voice of the One who would bring
peace go with you as you become peacemakers. Amen. |
