Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |

Welcome to the quiet, simple
dignity of this place as we gather to worship. Each day in this Temple
dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our
world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Greece in our prayers. Located in
Southern Europe, on the Aegean, Mediterranean and Ionian Seas, Greece
achieved its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1829. It is now
both agricultural and industrial, and its cultural history draws many
visitors. Greeks hold a deep respect for tradition, and have a deep love
for good times.
We greet you in the name of God who ordained that all people should live
together in peace and harmony. Let us be thankful for our blessings and
raise a triumphant song of joy to our God. |

The body is one, even though it has many
parts; all the parts—many though they are—comprise a single body. And so
it is with Christ. It was by one Spirit that all of us, whether we are
Jews or Greeks, slaves or citizens, were baptized into one body. All of
us have been given to drink of the one Spirit. And that Body is not one
part; it is many. If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it;
if one member is honored, all the members share the joy. You , then, are
the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it. |

Prayer for Peace by Gloria Mitchell, Prince
Albert, SK, Canada |

God, we have set this time apart to come before you with
our songs and prayers of peace.
We have called you by many names: Exalted, Most High, Creator, and Holy,
but whatever the name we give you pales in comparison to the works you
have wrought. You have created vast numbers of people and things we
really don't know. This awareness of our limits, our lack of
understanding all you are, is reflected through our faith in your
goodness and vast love.
Today our prayer of peace is for the country of Greece. We know little
of this country, but faith allows us to offer a prayer of peace for the
people who fish and farm, who live on islands and among the plains and
mountains; in a country so vastly different, yet similar.
God, we recognize our similarities when we know all people strive for a
good life in whatever way they can. Creator, please bless our
similarities and more specifically our differences. Help us build
bridges of love and understanding. Help us come to fully appreciated and
incorporate your greatest commandment of all: to love one another.
Our prayer this day is for peace throughout the world, and peace for the
people of Greece.
We pray in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
In the midst of daily duties, in deep awareness of
personal problems, in the midst of world issues that threaten to destroy
us we bow our heads in gratitude that we have been counted worthy to
bear the burdens of peace in our day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We sense the awesome purity of God's holiness and we long to be truly
free from the stain of sin. Please forgive us of our transgressions, we
pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Greece is striving for a peace-filled future. We pray that you will
guide them, and teach
peace to their neighbors in the world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |

We pray these things in the spirit of peace. Amen. |

We end our service today with Ministry of Music. You are
invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place for as
long as you may wish.
It is our faith that God is the creator of all people and loves each
person and each nation without qualification. May we see the face of
Jesus Christ in all of God's children. May God's grace touch each of us
with a full measure of love and may our lives and voices be a witness to
that divine Presence. |
