Becoming the Hands and Feet of God

BY DAVID NII, apostolic assistant

The Rocky Mountain USA Mission Center and member congregations are striving to live out mission in community as they Pursue Peace on Earth.

The Denver Street Retreat is an example of Unity in Diversity and Blessings of Community while expressing the broader mission of God. The annual event helps senior-high youth experience diversity and blessing by providing awareness of peace and justice issues.

On the streets of Denver, Colorado, they learn from the Denver Urban Ministry Center. They join in service projects while learning about the life of the homeless and how many people become homeless. They eat at the Same Café, a place where no one is turned away and people buy meals through a system of combined payment and bartering.

On the 16th Street Pedestrian Mall, the youth bring awareness of poverty issues through various “flash mob” venues, and they provide a unique worship service, open to all. They distribute Manna Bags, filled with snacks and hygiene products for the homeless.

The event ministers to the community. The youth truly provide Blessings of Community through education and worship, becoming the hands and feet of God.
