New World Church Standing Team: Human Sexuality, Faith, and
Community
Community of Christ has explored issues of sexuality for
many years. As a worldwide church, we will continue to examine this critical
aspect of our humanness with the understanding that many issues related to
it are particular to the contexts and cultures where people of the church
live and serve.
A new World Church Standing Team will focus on these issues: Human
Sexuality, Faith, and Community. This team integrates the purposes of the
former Human Sexuality and Homosexuality and the Church committees. Church
leaders, Human Sexuality chairperson Matthew Naylor, and Homosexuality and
the Church chairperson Kathy Robinson shared in this decision.
Naylor will lead the new team and Robinson will serve as a team member. The
First Presidency will invite additional people to serve on this team. The
priority of the Human Sexuality, Faith, and Community Team is to create a
sexual ethics statement guided by our Enduring Principles that will serve as
a resource in the ongoing study and examination of sexuality throughout the
worldwide church.
This announcement will also be shared in April through the Herald,
www.CofChrist.org and other outlets.
In Christ’s Peace,
THE FIRST PRESIDENCY
