Audience: Adults
Setting: Individual or small group with facilitator
Scope: An easy-to-read, easy-to-understand Christian-centered
dialogue about money and it’s god-like power. The book explores, from a
Christian perspective, the concepts of the power of money, whole life
dedication, generosity, and firstfruits living. It provides ample “food for
thought” through reflections and suggestions at the end of each chapter.
Purpose: To assist the reader as they explore their existing beliefs
about money and discern a set of Christian beliefs and practices regarding
money.
Summary: Money is a dominant force in a consumer-minded economy. In
choosing their intentions for money, people must first decide whether or not
money will rule them. With money, a person can purchase a virtually real
imitation of everything promised in the Kingdom of God-- no crying, plentiful
feasts, and beautiful housing. But in the end, it is a hollow imitation that
does not bring the peace of Christ. As a disciple of Christ, a person's
faithfulness must be shaped by the love and grace first received from God.
This changes the actions a person takes with money. If what we want gets
between us and God, or someone else has to do without their need
because we fulfilled our desire, we have embraced the notion of
entitlement and forgotten that all we have is a gift from God. When we no
longer see money as “ours” alone, but given to us from God, we move from
consumption toward generosity in all aspects of our lives.
