Spokane Valley Community of Christ—Let the Little Children
Come
Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and
world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your
contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.
This story, Let the Little Children Come, takes us to the Spokane Valley
Community of Christ in the Inland West USA Mission Center. John VanDerWalker
reflects: About 3:20 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday, a group of active
elementary children walks from Broadway Elementary School to the Spokane Valley
Community of Christ. The disciples who go with these children find that helping
them learn reading and math is an offering of ministry. Most of the more than 20
volunteers are retired. Some are young adults and others arrange their work
schedule to be a part of this important ministry.
When I see the children, some shuffling, some leaping, and other skipping toward
the church, I am reminded of Mark 10:14 “Let the little children come to me.”
Your generous contributions to World Ministries Mission Tithes help support the
Spokane Valley Homework Club. Thank you for responding faithfully by sharing so
very generously.—John G. VanDeWalker II, president, Inland West USA Mission
Center
B. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: Local
What is happening to you or in your congregation as a result of giving to
local ministries through Mission Tithes? Share those experiences as part of your
congregation’s Disciples’ Generous Response.
C. Blessing on Our Offering
From Doctrine and Covenants 163:3b we read: Above all else, strive to be
faithful to Christ’s vision of the peaceable Kingdom of God on earth.
Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries is part of
sharing the peace of Jesus Christ. Let us share in the prayer of blessing for
our offering.
