Arizona USA Mission Center—The Lord’s Word is Fulfilled
Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and
world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your
contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.
This story, The Lord’s Word is Fulfilled, takes us to the Arizona USA Mission
Center. Donald Welch reflects: On August 9, 2009, New Vision Community of Christ
gave a back-to-school party for 30 homeless children who live at the Child
Crisis Center, a group home in Mesa, Arizona. Removed from their homes because
of abuse and neglect, they move from their original geographic area. When the
children start school in Mesa each August, they are no longer in touch with
their families. Even worse, they have no friends other than those in their group
home. A huge party, complete with water balloons, ice-cream, and other children
their age, serves as a wonderful distraction from back-to-school anxiety.
New Vision Community of Christ is a congregational plant committed to serving
the community in ways like this at least once a month. By doing so, they strive
to fulfill God’s calling of peace and compassion. Your contributions to World
Ministries Mission Tithes helped to bring this new ministry into existence.
Thank you for responding faithfully by sharing so very generously.—Donald Welch,
pastor, New Vision Community of Christ
B. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: Local
What is happening to you or in your congregation as a result of giving to
local ministries through Mission Tithes? Share those experiences as part of your
congregation’s Disciples’ Generous Response.
C. Blessing on Our Offering
From Doctrine and Covenants 163:11a we read: God is calling for a prophetic
community to emerge, drawn from the nations of the world, that is characterized
by uncommon devotion to the compassion and peace of God revealed in Jesus
Christ.
Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries is part
of sharing the peace of Jesus Christ. Let us share in the prayer of blessing for
our offering.
