British Isles Mission Centre—A Legacy of Generosity

Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.

This story, A Legacy of Generosity, takes us to the British Isles Mission Centre. Andrew Fox reflects: Siblings Walter and Jenny were faithful members of the Enfield congregation throughout their lives. They provided wonderful ministry and their generous financial support of World Ministries and Congregational Ministries Mission Tithes brought blessings to many. Walter and Jenny passed away many years ago. By naming the Community of Christ in their Wills, each left a bequest that included a portion to be used for full-time ministry, and to help the elderly of the church.

During the past seven years many congregations, as well as Dunfield House, the mission centre’s retreat center, benefited from Walter and Jenny’s bequest. Congregations installed new and improved sound systems, which enable those with hearing loss to hear the worship more clearly. Several congregations built ramps that make entry to places of worship easier. Now handrails are in place, which help ministers who have difficulty standing preach and preside from behind the pulpit. Walter and Jenny may no longer be with us physically, but their legacy of generosity enables many to take part more fully in worship every week. Bequests to the Community of Christ help to spread the peace of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
