World Ministries Mission Tithes Update—November 8, 2009
Suggested
worship service for this day.
The following is an update on World Ministries Mission Tithes
contributions. For more information and updates on how your contributions to
World Ministries Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ, read
the November Herald “Sharing Our Witness and Resources” section.
A. World Ministries Mission Tithes Update
The church received an estimated $895,000 in World Ministries
Mission Tithes in September, continuing the significant improvement in
contributions we experienced in August. Three months into the new fiscal year,
we are 10 percent ahead of the budget of $9.8 million. If this trend continues
through the year, the worldwide mission of the church will be strengthened.
Thank you very much for your faithful giving.
How are we living our mission today?
-
Youth in the Mid-Atlantic Mission Center, led by full-time
field ministers, made a youth venture to Africa, bringing life-changing
experiences to those who went and those they met.
-
Young adults provide teaching ministry in India through
WorldService Corps.
-
Destiny of HOPE, part of the Imani Mission in Columbia,
Missouri, offers outreach and compassionate ministries to the community.
B. Congregational Ministries Mission Tithes Update: Local
The congregational financial officer should give an update about the
congregation’s budget at this time. Highlight positive things that have happened
in addition to items that need attention.
C. Blessing on Our Offering
From Mark 12:41–44 adapted (NRSV): we read: [Jesus] sat down opposite the
treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury…A poor widow
came and put in two small copper coins…Then he called his disciples and said to
them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are
contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their
abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had
to live on.”
Sharing our offerings equally between local and world ministries changes
lives around the world. Let us share in the prayer of blessing on our offering.
