Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission
Tithes for local and world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in
touch with how your contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of
Jesus Christ.
This story, Love God, Love Neighbor, Love Self, takes us to the Chesapeake Bay
USA Mission Center. Dave Anderson reflects: Of the many tasks and
responsibilities I have had in the past three years, none is a more
transformative experience than administering Oblation. All over our mission
center—from Maryland’s rolling hills and urban centers, Virginia’s suburbs, to
the rural areas of West Virginia—I’ve witnessed Oblation and Tangible Love
transform lives. One recipient expressed his thoughts on his Oblation
experience, “I really appreciate your making a special trip today and bringing a
message of hope. I feel like a weight is lifted from my mind and my body. When I
think of all the people who receive the same help through the Oblation fund, it
makes me want to give all the more. It was always a real joy to be able to
contribute every month... never did I ever dream that I would be on the
receiving end.”
For the people in the Chesapeake Bay Mission Center involved in Oblation
ministry, I want to thank you, my dear friends and brothers and sisters in
Christ, for your gift of generosity in bringing hope and in sharing Christ’s
love to those in need. Thank you for responding faithfully by sharing so very
generously.—David N. Anderson, president and financial officer, Chesapeake
Bay USA Mission Center

C. Blessing on Our Offering
From Mark 12:28–31 (NRSV) adapted, we read: One of the scribes came near
and…asked him, “Which commandment is the first of all?” Jesus answered, ‘The
first is…you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’
The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no
other commandment greater than these.”
Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries is part
of sharing the peace of Jesus Christ. Let us share in the prayer of blessing for
our offering.
