Chat Code of Conduct
Mission Statement
Community of Christ proclaims Jesus Christ and promotes communities of joy,
hope, love, and peace.
This chat is seen as a way of fulfilling that mission. We look to a time and
place where Jesus Christ is truly honored and God’s will is done on earth. We
believe also that love is the proper foundation of our relationship with others
and that it is through love that we can come to understand each other. We
believe that all should have an opportunity to grow in the likeness of Christ,
and we recognize that part of that growth comes as we rub shoulders with each
other, learning from each other even in areas where we differ.
By registering as a member of the chat, you agree to the following:
Chat Code of Conduct
1. Perspective: You are encouraged to remember a global perspective,
rather than one focused specifically and tightly to one particular country. You
also acknowledge that we are all at different places on our spiritual journeys
and are willing to listen to others with an open mind.
2. Courtesy and respect: You agree to be courteous to all members, even
those whose beliefs you think are false and objectionable. You agree not to make
negative personal remarks about other posters, including remarks about their
age, disability, gender, nationality, race, religion, political affiliation,
sexual orientation, or any other personal characteristic. You agree not to
create posts and discussions intended to criticize or ridicule other members
personally. You agree not to call another poster by derogatory names.
3. Harassment: You agree not to advocate violence against or harassment
of groups or particular individuals. You also agree not to malign, vilify,
defame, abuse, harass, or threaten others.
4. Attacks: You agree not to post false information about individuals,
nor will you post personally identifying information about another poster. You
also agree not to claim to know another’s beliefs and opinions on the basis of
hearsay information. You agree not to post false information about the
sponsoring denomination.
5. Arguing: You agree that you will not post in ways that contain
aggressive and repeated attempts to convert someone’s religious beliefs or
opinions. You also agree not to post in ways that are argumentative or sarcastic
in nature or that are seen as “flames” intended to disrupt the conversation.
6. Vulgarity: You agree not to post using vulgar, obscene, or indecent
language, information, or images.
7. Illegal activities: You agree not to promote illegal activity or
discuss illegal activities with the intent to commit them. You also agree that
you will not solicit or promote the use of an illegal substance.
8. Copyright: You agree to respect intellectual property rights. If you
desire to post copyrighted materials, you may quote a small sample, credit the
source, and post a hyperlink to the original. You will not post links to
copyrighted material.
9. Commercial links: You agree not to post links to the URLs of
commercial sites.
10. Copying posts: You agree not to copy posts from the
chat to
another site without the express permission of the author.
11. Contact information: You agree to provide a valid
e-mail address in your profile. Chat administrators
must be able to contact you through e-mail. If the e-mail address in your
profile is not valid, your privileges may be suspended.
12. Complaints: You agree to report complaints and
problems to the moderator team for appropriate action. Any communication
about moderator decisions, user suggestions, or complaints addressed to an
individual moderator will be shared with the whole team. You agree not to
post problem reports and complaints publicly on the site, or to comment publicly
about moderator actions.13. Log review: All
conversations in this chat (both public and private) are logged in their
entirety, and the logs are immediately available for chat administrator review.
This is a precautionary measure that allows us to periodically monitor chat room
use to prevent potential abuse of our chat rooms. Chat problems may be reported
to the moderators by emailing
