BUNDA CHITUNGU CHIBWE
Bunda C.
Chibwe is a member of the Council of Twelve Apostles, the lead missionary quorum
of Community of Christ. He is assigned to the Africa and Haiti Mission Field,
which includes Central Africa Mission Center, Haiti Mission Center, Ivory
Coast-Liberia Mission Center, Kenya Mission Center, Malawi Mission Center,
Nigeria Mission Center, and South Central Africa Mission Center.
Ordained to the Council of Twelve in April 2000, Bunda’s previous assignment
was the Africa Mission Field. A full-time minister since 1982, he previously
served as president of the Sixth Quorum of Seventy. He also served as the
associate Africa Region administrator for Zambia, Malawi, and the Democratic
Republic of Congo, and treasurer and president of the Zambia National Church.
Prior to accepting full-time ministerial responsibilities, Bunda was employed
as an elementary school headmaster in the Zaire National Education System. A
native of Lubunda, Zambia, he attended Park University, Parkville, Missouri,
where he received a master of arts in religion degree. He was recognized as the
outstanding student of his graduating class.
Bunda also earned a “Graduat” in theology in 1982 from the Kananga School of
Theology in Zaire. He attended the University of Zaire, Lubumbashi, completing a
program in elementary education administration. Bunda is fluent in seven African
languages as well as English and French. He is certified to teach French and
Kiswahili.
Bunda is married to Jenny Kumwimba Mpoyo Chibwe. They reside with their
family in Johannesburg, South Africa. They have five children: Cecilia Chilufya,
Andrew Bunda, Manasseh Andrea, Ilunga Mardoche, and Deborah.
