DAVID J. BROWN

David J. Brown was ordained as a counselor to the Presiding Bishopric, the highest financial council of the church, in March 2007. Previously he was the controller for the Community of Christ. He is a certified public accountant and has worked in the church's Fiscal Services since January 1979.

A native of New London, Iowa, Dave graduated from Muscatine High School in Iowa. He received a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, and an M.B.A. degree in accounting from the Bloch School of Business at the University of Missouri—Kansas City.

From 1974 to 1979 he worked as assistant manager of Central Development Association in Independence, Missouri. His first assignment for the World Church was in Fiscal Services as a tax services specialist. In 1986 he became accounting manager, and in 1992 Dave was named controller. He also taught at the Graceland College Independence Campus from 1978 to 1988 as an instructor of statistics.

Dave was ordained a bishop in 1994 and has served in various leadership roles in his own congregation and for International Headquarters.

He is married to the former Joan E. Horsley of Hamilton, Ontario. They are the parents of five children.
