Christian education materials recommended for use beginning in May 2007 are listed
below. These resources offer a variety of choices for use until the material
currently being developed for Christian education and disciple formation is
available. A Resource
Assessment Survey can be downloaded for congregations
that wish to consider other options. Contact Herald House for orders and
questions: www.HeraldHouse.org,
sales@HeraldHouse.org 1-800-767-8181,
or (816) 521-3015.
From October 2006 through January 2007, a team explored several options for
Christian education materials. The criteria utilized to determine
recommendations ensure that resources are consistent with Community of Christ
statements on faith and belief, Christology, and scripture, and will assist
members in sharing the peace of Jesus Christ and living as generous disciples. A
strong connection to the lectionary was also emphasized.
We hope members and friends find this information helpful in continuing to
seek and provide information that is critical to the church as together we
pursue our worldwide mission to proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of
joy, hope, love, and peace.
Resources for
Children and Youth
|
Aliyah (ah-LEE-ah) is a Hebrew word meaning "a journey toward God."
The challenge of equipping children and youth for this journey is reflected in
the new Community of Christ resource called Aliyah.
Aliyah lessons are based on scripture, including Doctrine and
Covenants 163. One lesson each month will be posted on this web site to be
downloaded and used for church school, youth group meetings, junior church, or
any time you want to connect children or youth to the vision of the church.

Growing
a Grateful,
Generous Heart
Stewardship Resources for Children and Their Families
Includes materials for leaders, teachers,
parents, and children.
The principle of generosity foundational to Christian
discipleship is an important concept to discover and learn at an early age. This
allows for those engaged in such a ministry of discipleship formation to develop
patterns of generosity and sharing that will bless them for the rest of their
lives. One of the core beliefs of the Community of Christ is the worth of all
persons, including children and youth. Another core belief is the concept of
stewardship, finding expression in the six principles of A Disciples’ Generous
Response. These two core beliefs come together in this series of stewardship
resources.
Developed by Living the Good News in collaboration with the Office of
Stewardship at the Episcopal Church Center, this series of resources provides
excellent lessons for study. The
Community of Christ Supplemental Study Guide
provides information on how to adapt this resource series to the specifics of
the Community of Christ (such as references to Web sites, hymnals, or books)
when needed.

World
Community
World Community is designed for three different age levels:
Light of the World, for eight years of age and above; Path of the Disciple, for
youth eleven years of age and above; and Exploring Community Together, for those
fifteen years of age and above. Young people—disciples or friends of the
Community of Christ—have the opportunity to deepen their discipleship through
completing and documenting creative projects and service activities. Students
accomplish this through the creation of a portfolio/scrapbook demonstrating
their involvement in the life of the church and the community with the
assistance of an adult mentor.

Peace
24-7
Empowering Youth to be Ministers of Peace and Justice
The goal of Peace 24/7 is to empower youth to be ministers of peace and
justice─wherever they live, in whatever they do. Peace 24/7 takes the business
of creating peace out of the hands of someone else and helps youth acknowledge
their personal responsibility as a disciple of Christ in this continuous
process. Each issue covers specific peace and/or justice topics that directly
affect youth and their communities. |
