Lifeguard experience desired, waterfront / small watercraft experience preferred. Experience operating a zero-turn lawn mower, small engine equipment (chainsaws, weed eater, etc.), and tractors. Experience mixing fuel for small engines and the proper use of safety equipment (gloves, eye protection, etc.) preferred.

Summary of Position
Chihowa is seeking an individual to serve as a lifeguard as needed for summer camps and a groundskeeper for the campground. Lifeguard coverage is needed for the pool during swimming hours and at the lake when people are out in boats or on the dock. Grounds assignments will vary each day and week, depending on the needs of the camp, and the skills of the participant. Training, certification, and responsibility will focus on Grounds Upkeep and Maintenance. Specific responsibilities may include office and guest support, landscape maintenance, small engine maintenance/care, inventory, sanitary/safety requirements, etc.
Essential Functions
- Lifeguard patrons at the Chihowa swimming pool and waterfront; provide rescue, first aid, and/or emergency care until EMS arrives, if needed
- Demonstrate a professional and courteous attitude towards all Chihowa guests
- Arrive for each lifeguard shift in uniform and rescue ready
- Coordinate care of pool with the Resident Manager
- Ensure that all patrons are following safety guidelines/rules for swimming pool, waterfront, and boating activities
- Maintain a clean pool area – deck and water should be free of debris, pool changing rooms/restrooms should be clean and stocked, all equipment in good working order
- Take inventory of pool and waterfront equipment. Notify the Resident Manager of any repairs/replacements needed. Inventory to include lifejackets, paddles, etc.
- Ensure that boating equipment is stored correctly and locked when not in use
- Provide excellent customer service as one of Chihowa’s on-site liaisons to guests
- All staff should possess respect for others, punctuality, cleanliness, appropriate clothing, ownership in camp properties, etc
- If necessary, submit incident/accident reports on time
- Report to Resident Manager any guest, volunteer, or site problems that you are not able to resolve on your own as soon as possible
- Instruct guests in emergency procedures such as severe weather warnings
- Check all maintenance equipment prior to use, including all tractors, mowers, weed eaters and other grounds equipment
- Assist with the care, maintenance, and improvement of Chihowa’s grounds
- Keep the grounds clear of tree limbs and debris while mowing and trimming (walk each area before you mow)
- Assist to clean, service and maintain all camp lawn care equipment
- Clean out the lawn mower decks after each use
- Ensure that all hazardous materials such as gasoline, weed killer, and oil are kept in their appropriate places and appropriate containers
- When instructed, spray sidewalks, paths, and firepit areas for weeds
- Report any malfunctioning equipment to the Executive Director
- Report any supplies needed to the Executive Director
- Trim trees in mowed areas and along the driveway as needed
- Use proper safety equipment when operating machinery
- Other duties as assigned, which may include cleaning, painting/staining, and small repairs

Knowledge of pool maintenance and chemical application. Knowledge of landscaping and tree care.

Required Trainings
Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
